6th May 2014 Sierra Leone is predicted to be one of the fastest growing economies in the world over the next few years, mainly thanks to its large iron ore resources. However, it still faces enormous challenges in developing sustainably, particularly regarding its water management. In an interview with Iain Whitfield, he explains about how Sierra Leone is meeting the challenges of huge economic growth and sustainable water management. Key messages from the hydro-meteorological monitoring project: 1. The outcomes of monitoring must inform decision-making and lead to appropriate follow up action in order to address real water management issues. 2. When establishing hydro-meteorological monitoring sites, the size of the chosen network must also be proportional to the capacities of the organisation that will manage the process of data collection and publication. 3.
